Democrat Gina Raimondo went on the offense against her opponent Republican Allan Fung Thursday night, saying he is covering up his record on 38 Studios and abandoning Cranston.

In WJAR’s last televised debate of the election, Raimondo attacked Fung on a newly surfaced email which allegedly showed the Cranston Mayor inviting Curt Schilling’s video game company to set up shop in Cranston.

“To me he’s just playing politics, he’s saying whatever people want to hear to get elected,” said Raimondo, “I’m a leader I was against it from the beginning and at this point in time the best thing to do for the people of Rhode Island, not the bond holders, is to pay it back and move forward.”

The Treasurer said failure to repay the bonds shows that Rhode Island is not a safe investment; Fung disagreed.

“Gina is absolutely wrong,” said Fung, “And all the viewers know this is politics at its worst.”

Fung said the evidence that he contacted 38 Studios is unauthenticated and a tactic being used at the end of an election.

Raimondo also criticized Fung’s management of Cranston, saying if elected he would leave behind a city with an underfunded pension system, high taxes, and an investigation into his police department. Fung maintained the Treasurer does not know what she is talking about.

Moderate party candidate Bob Healey said he is the only candidate who will represent the people because he is not being funded with millions of dollars from outside interests.

“It’s really about giving the people the opportunity to take back their government, to feel that they have something, so it’s not just the special interests groups that funded this side of the argument or that side of the argument,” said Healey.

All three candidates will meet one last time for a Chamber of Commerce forum Friday morning.
