State leaders Monday attended a ceremony at Quonset Point in North Kingstown to mark the ten thousandth person hired to work in the business park.

“We are here to announce the fact that employment at the Quonset Business Park now exceeds 10,000 people,” said Quonset Managing Director Steve King.

Governor-elect Gina Raimondo said the state’s investment in Quonset Point should be a model for how Rhode Island can invest in its workforce.

“We need to have programs to support and train our workers and then appropriate transparent incentives,” said Raimondo.

“We need everyone working together, rowing in the same direction: business, with our government, with our federal delegation; if we do that we can create tens of thousands of jobs.”

State leaders recognized Justin Jay of Warwick who was hired by the insurance benfits company AmWINS Group as the 10,000th worker at the park.

Quonset is home to nearly 200 companies and has hired 4,000 workers since creation of the Quonset Development Corporation in 2005.
