Alexandra Curtis of East Greenwich was crowned Rhode Island’s 2015 Cherry Blossom Princess Friday during a ceremony at the State House.

“This is an incredible honor, I couldn’t be more excited,” said Curtis.

“I absolutely love the ability to represent the state of Rhode Island.”

Daughter of WLNE’s Mark Curtis, Alexandra is the Ocean State’s third Cherry Blossom Princess and will go on to represent the state in the national Cherry Blossom Festival held in Washington D.C. in April; WPRO’s Kim Kalunian held the title of Cherry Blossom Princess for 2014.

Curtis is a graduate of Syracuse University and will be her master’s program at Brown University in June.

The selection of a Princess is done in conjunction with the National Cherry Blossom festival which celebrate the gift of cherry trees to the United States from Japan in 1912.

Curtis will also take part in Rhode Island’s own Cherry Blossom festival also planned for April.
