Raimondo says she will wait before she considers legalizing marijuana

Governor Gina Raimondo reacted to proposed legislation to legalize marijuana by saying she isn’t ready to sign off on the bill quite yet.

“If it were possible to regulate it in a way that kept people safe and allowed the state to generate revenue; I’d be open to it,” said Raimondo.

The new bill proposed by Senator Joshua Miller would make it legal for cannabis to be bought, sold, or grown in the state of Rhode Island by anyone over 21 years of age.

The Governor said she would rather see how legal marijuana plays out in other states such as Colorado before she would put pen to paper and sign a bill.

“I’m a long way away from saying I’m for it.”
