The Samuel Watson Elementary School in Fall River was locked down temporarily Tuesday as police conducted a search in a nearby neighborhood for a home invasion suspect.

Police responded to a call of an armed home invasion in the Niagra section of Fall River, before developing a lead that the suspect might be hiding out in the Pleasant Street/Eastern Avenue. As police searched residences and yards in the area, the nearby school was placed on a lockdown.

In a release, school department and police officials said the lockdown was, “in the interest of precaution only. At no time was the school, its staff or any children in danger. Further, the area was searched to no avail; and the Fall River Police Department has moved to another neighborhood of the city in search of the suspect.”

Police have thanked the parents of students for being cooperative.
