The winter of 2015 has been a record setter in several different categories, and that trend continued Tuesday when the Nation Weather Service announced March to be the second coldest on record.

The National Weather Service says the average high temperature in the state has been just 40 degrees. Combined with February, these past two months have been the coldest since records were officially kept. Although the rankings could slide further with warmer weather arriving in the next eight days.

The persistent cold has been the result of a weather pattern out to sea driving cold weather to the east coast, according to the National Weather Service.
