President Barack Obama’s eldest daughter Malia was in Rhode Island Tuesday evening, reportedly touring Brown University before dining at the XO Café on Providence’s North Main Street.

“She came in with a couple friends and their parents,” said XO Café Vice President of Operations Ted Newcomer. “They came in around I want to say around 7:30PM or 8:00PM [and] shared some appetizers for the table.”

“They seemed to enjoy everything,” continued Newcomer. “All the plates came back empty; so that’s a good thing.”

XO chef Marty Lyons said a security detail came by before Malia’s arrival to scope out the restaurant.

“Some guy came in, poking around asking lots of questions, checking every exit [and] window; he informed us after that there was going to be a high profile guest,” said Lyons.

It was rumored Malia Obama was interested in Brown University and that she would be in town to see the campus. Brown sophomore Jamie McClung wasn’t fazed by the news the President’s daughter was interested in her school.

“It’s not that big of a deal, I mean, there’s been other President’s kids here,” said McClung.

Malia Obama wouldn’t be the first public figure to attend Brown University in recent years. Harry Potter star and United Nations Goodwill Ambassador Emma Watson attended the school from 2011 to 2014.
