PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – Gov. Gina Raimondo has unveiled an initiative to better connect employers with a trained workforce.

Raimondo says “Real Jobs RI” is a flexible grant program that’s part of her overall strategy to put Rhode Islanders back to work in jobs that can support a family.

The funding, $1.3 million, has been requested from the Governor’s Workforce Board through its administration of the state Job Development Fund.

Initial grants of up to $25,000 will be available for industry partnerships to determine the specific workforce needs of employers and plan for how to train people to meet those needs.

The remaining funding will be allocated for the plans that are approved.

Raimondo spoke about the initiative at Yushin America, Inc., a robotics manufacturer in Cranston.
