Three summer cottages in Burrillville are destroyed after an early morning fire on the shore of Lake Echo.

The Monday morning blaze was made doubly difficult for fire crews as the cottages sat nearly three-quarters-of-a-mile off of Reservoir Road. When crews arrives they saw one cottage completely engulfed in flames and two adjacent already burning.

Officials say there were no occupants in the cottages.

“The information we are receiving is that these residences were vacant at the time; they hadn’t been opened up for summer use at the time,” said Sargent Jason Eddy of the Burrillville Police.

The State Fire Marshal’s office is leading the investigation into what caused the fire.
