Catholic in Rhode Island? There’s an app for that.

The Diocese of Providence is out with a new mobile app for smart phones in an effort to keep the faithful “plugged in” to what’s going on in the local Catholic community.

“It is our hope that this new mobile resource will provide the faithful with another means to connect to the diocese, no matter where they happen to be,” said Bishop Thomas Tobin in a statement.

The app allows users to connect to diocesan social media sites, access information about schools, masses, events and cancellations, and even read the Rhode Island Catholic newspaper.

The diocese follows the lead – as they are apt to do – of Pope Francis, who said, “The internet, in particular, offers immense possibilities for encounter and solidarity. This is something truly good, a gift from God.”

The app is free and can be downloaded on the Apple Store or Google Play.
