The principal at a Cranston middle school was arrested at T.F. Green Airport for carrying illegal drugs in his luggage.

A spokeswoman for the Rhode Island Airport Corporation (RIAC) said a TSA agent was monitoring checked baggage on August 1 and found an “anomaly” with one of Anthony Corrente’s bags. Airport police responded and found cocaine inside.

Corrente, 41, of Warwick, was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, a felony.

RIAC did not disclose where Corrente was travelling or how much of the drug was found inside his luggage.

Cranston Public Schools Chief Operating Officer Raymond Votto said Corrente, who is the principal at Western Hills Middle School, has been placed on paid administrative leave while the matter is investigated.

Corrente is set to appear in court later this month.
