Johnston’s fire department a brand new, high capacity fire truck after a local business donated funds to make the acquisition.

Sims Metal Management purchased the Spartan ERV Pumper Truck after Johnston Mayor Joseph Polisena asked for a helping hand.

“When the mayor told us of his needs for the town we made a conscious effort to help the town out,” said Sims Spokesperson Kenneth Marandola.

The new truck is a state of the art vehicle which will not only be able to pump more water than older fire trucks, but will also serve as a supplemental vehicle for rescue crews in the case of a medical emergency.

“[Firefighters] can do exactly the same thing that rescues can do, they have defibrillators, they can administer lifesaving drugs,” said Mayor Polisena.

Polisena said Sims has been a good corporate citizen to Johnston since they opened their doors in the town.

“They really stepped up to the plate and we’re very happy that they did.”
