Gov. Gina Raimondo Monday announced two tax credits aimed at sparking job growth and development in a bid to help attract new companies to the state, as well as existing Rhode Island businesses.

“It’s going to create jobs in Rhode Island, good, high paying, innovation jobs, so I am thrilled and excited to do that,” said Raimondo of the Qualified Jobs Incentive, which provides tax credits for companies relocating to the state and creating a minimum number of new jobs, and current companies that grow their in-state workforce.

She also announced a Rebuild Rhode Island Tax Credit, aimed at qualified real estate projects of $5 million or more that demonstrate a financing gap.

“We have to be more competitive, we have to create the right economic climate for job growth, and we’ll get there,” said House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello (D-Cranston). He and Senate President Teresa Paiva Weed joined Raimondo in unveiling the tax credits in the visitor’s center at Slater Mill in Pawtucket.

Rhode Island Commerce Secretary Stefan Pryor said that companies can apply right away for the programs at his agency’s web site.
