As customers walk around their local liquor stores, a bright pink can top may be catching their eye. For the month of October, Grey Sail Brewing of Rhode Island has been selling their brews with special pink packaging in order to raise money for breast cancer research.

“We’ve been wanting to do this for years,” said Assistant Brewer Michelle Kirms. “This is the first time we’ve done something like this and we’ve gotten such positive feedback.”

With the success of the pink packing, Kirms says the brewing is looking at doing this again with different colors for different causes.

When Hurricane Sandy hit, Grey Sail made a not for profit beer which were donated to Sandy Relief and local businesses.

“We’re making the beer anyway, there is no reason not to do something with it, try to give back to the community,” said Kirms.

Since their beginning, the brewery has seen a lot of expansion and they are happy to announce in the upcoming months they will be opening a tap house.  The brewery is in the process of finalizing the sale of a property next door which will house their tastings. The plan is still in the early stages but follow the brewery online for more details.

In addition to the tap house, Grey Sail is also expanding with more equipment. With the new equipment being installed it will allow for different styles of beer to be brewed including the possible return of an imperial stout.
