PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A Rhode Island lawmaker says he’s running for re-election despite being under investigation by state police.

Democratic Rep. John Carnevale declared his candidacy Wednesday at Providence City Hall.

He says he’s already explained himself to constituents after reports questioned whether he lives in his district.

A report by WPRI-TV revealed Carnevale owns a Johnston home outside his district that he hadn’t declared on ethics filings.

The station repeatedly visited the home and found Carnevale and his vehicles there, but never saw him at the Providence home where he says he lives. The TV report prompted investigations by state police and the Providence Board of Canvassers.

Two other Democrats, Ramon Perez and Lisa Scorpio, filed papers to challenge Carnevale for the seat before Wednesday’s filing deadline.
