The Beach Boys to be first performance at new East Providence concert venue

The Beach Boys, led by original member Mike Love, will kick-off the inaugural live entertainment season at the new outdoor venue located at Bold Point Park on the East Providence waterfront on Wednesday, August 9th.

““We are excited to get things rolling at Bold Point Park with The Beach Boys!  They personify good summer vibes, exactly what we plan to offer our guests for many seasons to come along the East Providence waterfront.” said Michele Maker Palmieri, Founder and President of Waterfront Productions, the parent company of Rhode Island Waterfront Events and Newport Waterfront Events.

The Beach Boys are arguably the most popular and influential American rock band in history with more than 100 million albums sold, twelve Billboard Top Ten hits with three reaching #1 and center stage appearances at Live Aid, the Statue of Liberty’s 100th Anniversary Salute, the Super Bowl and the White House.  The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988, received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001 and, in 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked the Beach Boys 12th on its list of the “100 Greatest Artists of All Time”.

Forming in Hawthorne, California in 1961, The Beach Boys and their distinctive harmonies became synonymous with the “California Sound” which celebrated a youth culture of surfing, cars and romance.  As their music matured they emphasized more personal lyrics and multi-layered sounds and, in 1966, the Pet Sounds album and its “Good Vibrations” single positioned the group in a select class of rock innovators.  Original member Mike Love’s current role as the band’s front man sometimes overshadows his stature as one of rock’s foremost songwriters. The band’s first hit song, “Surfin’” was written by Love more than 50 years ago and he co-wrote countless other classics with his cousin, Brian Wilson, including “Fun, Fun, Fun”, “I Get Around”, “Help Me Rhonda”, “California Girls”, and, of course, the Grammy nominated “Good Vibrations”. In 1988, Love wrote the Golden Globe nominated “Kokomo” which is the band’s best selling single ever.
