RI Speaker blames Commerce Corp’s ‘lack of diligence’ for vagueness of PawSox Stadium deal

“Once the legislation is considered and passed, we lose all control over that,” Speaker of the House Nicholas Mattiello told WPRO’s Dan Yorke on Wednesday. “Then, it falls upon the Governor and the Commerce Corporation and right now I’m hearing that they’re relying upon our vetting, which I don’t think is appropriate. They’ve got the professionals, they’ve got the staff, they should be doing the ultra vetting on this deal. They should have the contracts ready for us to review and consider. It’s just too vague right now for me to trust. I am not going to send another deal to Commerce Corporation, have them do a bad deal.”
