Police arrest teen involved in pistol-whipping of student

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Providence police say they’ve arrested a teenager involved in the pistol-whipping of an 18-year-old high school student.

According to police department spokesperson Lindsay Lague, a 15-year-old male was apprehended by officials in connection with the attack. The teenager was charged with assault and sent to family court Thursday.

No weapon was recovered and police are still searching for a second suspect.

Police say a pair of suspects attacked and tried to rob a student as he was getting a drink of water Wednesday.

School officials say school was briefly placed on lockdown. Surveillance video of the attack helped police identify one of the suspects.

The student who was attacked suffered a minor cut and was treated by the school nurse.
