A veteran Attleboro firefighter who collapsed while on duty on Sunday has died.
Thomas Albert Cannon, 63, a veteran of more than 30 years with the department collapsed and went into cardiac arrest while checking on equipment at the start of his shift Sunday afternoon at the Twin Village fire station on South Main Street, said Attleboro Fire Chief Scott T. Lachance. He said Cannon was rushed to the hospital and died on Monday.
“I am very saddened at the news of Thomas Cannon’s line of duty death,” said Chief Lachance. “He served our department with distinction and pride for over 30 years.”
“On behalf of the entire Attleboro Fire Department I want to extend our love and prayers to his family and loved ones.”
He said Cannon leaves his wife, Alice and three sons, Lucas, Jacob and Seth Cannon, who is a firefighter in Sandwich.
Funeral arrangements were pending. Black bunting was hung over the engine bays at the Attleboro Fire Department headquarters.
