Rhode Island has the worst roads in the United States, according to a study published by Insurify. According to the study, 41% of rural roads are in poor condition in Rhode Island, 22% of the state’s bridges are structurally deficient, and 3.66% of the state’s expenditures are devoted to funding highways. The study did not include interstate highways in it’s data.

The insurance-oriented website crunched the numbers provided in the Rural Connections: Challenges and Opportunities in America’s Heartland report and ranked the states with the worst roads. The report found that the states with the worst roads are located mostly in the Northeast and the South. Connecticut ranked #2, and Vermont #7. See the full list HERE.

Insurify compiled TRIP data from their 2017 report in order to rank the states with the highest percent of rural roads in poor condition. They also included TRIP’s statistics on the number of structurally deficient bridges in all fifty states.
