House Minority Leader and candidate for governor Patricia Morgan dropped off a $3,750 personal check to pay for the “search, retrieval, and delivery of all documents related to the spending” of the $23 million in Google Settlement funds. She said she tried to request access to the records back in March, but was told she had to pay that fee first.

“At this point having gone to court and not willing to look for any more delays, I’m actually spending my own money to get the documents for the people of Rhode Island,” she said on Tuesday. “I feel strongly that there is something there that the Attorney General doesn’t want the people of Rhode Island to see. So I’m going to go searching for it.”

Morgan wants the money to be spent on school security measures. She insisted the $3,750 fee is a “tactic” to keep the documents shrouded from public view.

Morgan hand delivered a letter and her check to The Attorney General’s office on Tuesday. The Attorney General’s office had no comment.
