PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – An education board says enrollment at all three of Rhode Island’s public colleges is in decline.

The New England Board of Higher Education reported Wednesday that overall many of New England’s public colleges saw a drop in enrollment from fall 2017 to fall 2018. The Providence Journal reports Rhode Island College saw a 4.9-percent drop in the last year.

The University of Rhode Island has experienced a decline of 1.7 percent, and the Community College of Rhode Island’s enrollment has dropped by 1.6 percent.

RIC Vice President for student success Jason Meriwether says the college has been trying to turn during an ongoing decline in enrollment, and the school has made it easier for CCRI students to transfer credit work and seamlessly transfer to the school itself.
