PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island’s attorney general says he has discovered more felony cases that were not prosecuted by his predecessor.
As former Attorney General Peter Kilmartin finished his term in December, The Providence Journal reported that his office didn’t pursue about 1,300 cases and the statute of limitations had expired on most of them.
Current Attorney General Peter Neronha said Tuesday a review found about 1,700 more cases that weren’t pursued. He discussed the issue with WPRO’s Dan Yorke on Tuesday afternoon. LISTEN BELOW.
Kilmartin’s spokeswoman blamed police departments, saying they didn’t file investigative packages needed by prosecutors.
