Sources: Elvis Dumervil Released By Broncos
5:38PM Saturday
March 16, 2013

(DENVER) --  According to sources, the Denver Broncos have released defensive end Elvis Dumervil on Friday afternoon.

The move came as a surprise after Dumervil took a paycut from 2013 salary.  Dumervil's salary was supposed to go from $12 million to $8 million, but the paperwork for the new deal was not filed with the league office by Friday's 4 p.m. ET. deadline.

If Dumervil had been on the Broncos' roster after the deadline, his $12 million salary would have become guaranteed for the 2013 season.

The Broncos received a fax of the restructured deal at 4:07 p.m. ET, but the team was forced to release him after the fax came late.

Dumervil signed a six-year, $61.5 million contract with the Broncos in 2010.  He was second on the team last season with 11 sacks.
