Rhode Island Democrats gathered in a Providence restaurant Monday, to applaud President Obama as he took the oath of office, and delivered his second inaugural addresss.
About 50 party faithful gathered in Rick's Roadhouse in the Jewelry District to share lunch, and watch the inaugural ceremonies on wide-screen televisions. The crowd cheered as Vice President Joe Biden and President Obama took the oath of office, and stood to cheer after Obama completed his inaugural address.
"It's a call to action," said Rhode Island General Treasurer Gina Raimondo, one of the few elected officials to join the group to watch the inauguration. She sat with her husband and two young children.
"He's reminding all of us that everybody has a role to play, and most important that we have to make tough choices and invest in our future," Raimondo said.
"He understands the issues of our time," Rhode Island Democratic Party Chairman Edwin Pacheco said of President Obama.
"I believe over the next four years, as he says very often, our best days are ahead of us," said Pacheco.
