PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Former Providence Mayor and WPRO afternoon host Buddy Cianci says he is fine and only spent an hour in the hospital after he got lightheaded following the unveiling of his official portrait at Providence City Hall.

The 74-year-old Cianci was greeting supporters in a crowded room Thursday evening after the unveiling. He said on his radio show Friday that it was “hot as the blazes” in the room and he felt lightheaded and sat down. Cianci said firefighters in attendance found he had a low pulse and summoned an ambulance.

He was taken to Roger Williams Medical Center, where he was found to be dehydrated and had low potassium. He said he was treated with saline and got tests including an EKG, which were normal.

After leaving the hospital, he immediately joined the post-unveiling party.
