PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – Roger Williams University is freezing tuition for current undergraduates and guaranteeing no hike over this year’s rate for those who enroll within the next school year.

As part of its Affordable Excellence Initiative, the university in Bristol is promising that the annual tuition rate of $29,976 paid by current students won’t increase during the next four years. Students who enroll in the 2015-2016 year are guaranteed the same tuition.

The university says the freeze is part of an effort to address the rising cost of college and student debt.

The university has kept its tuition the same since 2012 and lowered tuition at its law school by 18 percent, to $33,792. The university says enrollment is growing as a result.
