Former Secretary of State and First Lady Hillary Clinton rallied several hundred Gina Raimondo supporters Friday at Rhode Island College, urging them to recruit friends and family members to support the Treasurer in her campaign for governor in next week’s election.

The rally was held at Rhode Island College; its theme was “rebuilding the middle class”.

“Truly, the future of Rhode Island’s middle class depends upon who is elected governor,” said Clinton.

“There is no better choice; you have one of the best choices in the entire country with Gina.”

Clinton also struck familiar Democratic Party themes such as increasing the minimum wage and equal pay for equal work for women.

Recent polls showed that Raimondo remains the front-runner over Republican nominee Cranston Mayor Allan Fung, with under two weeks remaining before Election Day.

Clinton also campaigned for Democratic governor candidates Martha Coakley in Massachusetts and Mike Michaud in Maine. Both are in tight races.

The White House confirmed late Friday that President Barack Obama is slated to visit Rhode Island College next week to deliver a speech on the economy that was postponed from last week, when he remained in Washington to deal with the Ebola situation.
