The Rhode Island Coalition Against Gun Violence organized a rally outside the State House Thursday to call on lawmakers to pass “common sense” gun regulations.

Protesters drew attention to two bills which would restrict the conceal carry of a gun on school grounds, and prevent those convicted of domestic violence charges from ever obtaining a firearm. Additionally, calls were also made to limit the capacity of rifle and handgun magazines to ten bullets.

The rally featured guest speakers ranging from Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza, to Wendy Bowen, a retired teacher from Newtown Connecticut where 20 children and six adults were killed.

The Rhode Island Coalition Against Gun Violence is partnered with 62 organizations including the Providence branch of the NAACP and Rhode Island State Council of Churches.
