Plane off the runway at Westerly Airport

A small plane skidded off the runway at Westerly State Airport Monday morning, injuring the pilot.

In a statement, the Federal Aviation Administration says the plane made an emergency landing 9:30a.m. without its landing gear deployed. The FAA says he pilot experienced problems with his right engine after taking off from Westerly.

Emergency personnel rushed to the airfield to treat the single occupant of the plan, however the extent of pilot’s injuries are unknown.

A state aeronautical inspector was on site looking over the plane, which was placed off to the side of the runway.

Normal airport operations resumed shortly after the accident.
