I-95 traffic stop leads to seizure of heroin, oxycodone

WEST GREENWICH, R.I. (AP) – State police say a routine traffic stop on Interstate 95 in West Greenwich has led to the recovery of a large amount of narcotics and the arrest of a Providence man.

Police say a vehicle driven by 54-year-old Miguel Medrano was stopped on I-95 just before 3 a.m. Thursday for pulled over for a moving violation.

During routine questioning, troopers observed several indicators that Medrano was possibly involved in the transportation of narcotics. A subsequent search of Medrano’s vehicle resulted in the discovery of about 400 grams of heroin and 796 oxycodone pills.

The drugs had a combined street value of more than $40,000.

The suspect was charged with possession and trafficking offenses.
