In an interactive online feature, Slate Magazine has named the term Cabinet as the official slang word of the Ocean State.

A cabinet of course is Rhode Island-ese for a milkshake.

With the help of several linguists and lots of arguing, the writers at Slate constructed a slang map of the entire United States. In the article, Slate presents a caveat, saying their selection should not be taken as the final word on slang in each state, but rather just their favorite term.

With that in mind, it begs the question: Is cabinet still common term in Rhode Island vernacular? When was the last time you heard a cabinet ordered at a restaurant?

Of all the uniquely Rhode Island slang words, bubbler, grinder, quahog… Only cabinet tickled Slate’s fancy?

What do you think? In your opinion which is the most Rhode Island slang word?
