The Rhode Island Foundation is looking for people with innovative ideas to improve life in the state.

Those with the best ideas could receive a $300,000 grant.

The application period for the Rhode Island Innovation Fellowships opens Monday and runs through Dec. 11.

Two winners will be selected to each receive a $300,000 grant over a three-year period.

It’s the fifth year of the program, sometimes called Rhode Island’s genius grant.

Previous fellows have won for projects including a campaign to eliminate Hepatitis C infection in Rhode Island, a digitally printed textile facility and a plan to stimulate the shellfish industry.

Applicants do not need to live in Rhode Island, but must commit to living in Rhode island during the term of the fellowship if they win.
