PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) – Pawtucket police are investigating after a woman says she found a sewing needle stuck inside a Snickers bar that her daughter got trick-or-treating.

Bridget Burns tells channel 12 that she bit into the candy Monday morning. She says she noticed something silver and then realized it was a needle.

Needles have been reported in Halloween candy around the country, although some reports of candy tampering have later been found to be hoaxes.

Pawtucket police say they do not believe this report is a hoax, and they’re taking the incident seriously.

Police say there was a small hole in the wrapper. They are trying to get fingerprints off of it. They have also interviewed people in the neighborhood where the family went trick-or-treating.
