(Providence) Providence police are investigating a late afternoon shooting at the Providence Place Mall that led to the evacuation of the downtown Mall.

Police told WPRO a 19 year old man was shot in the 2nd floor of the mall garage on the Nordstrom side of the building. Public Safety Commissioner Steven Pare told WPRO the victim was “targeted” and that the mall is secure. A search for the suspects continue. The mall will likely be closed for the evening. The victim’s wounds are described as non life threatening, and he was transported to Rhode Island Hospital. According to police, this was not an active shooter situation and the victim appears to have been targeted. The investigation into this incident continues to be ongoing and police are searching for the subject(s) responsible.

A caller to the WPRO says he heard the Mall alarm go off as he shopped at the Macy’s.

“We ran to the parking and we saw a man on a stretcher getting rushed out”, said the caller to WPRO’s Dan Yorke who identified himself as Carl.

Police say they are reviewing video from inside the Mall and are coordinating access to the garage for people trying to retrieve their vehicles.
