17 year old arrested in connection with Providence Place shooting

Providence Police have arrested a 17 year old male from Pawtucket in connection with yesterday’s shooting at the Providence Place Mall parking garage.

“During the course of the night, the Providence Police did an outstanding job identifying the vehicle and a suspect involved – he’s been apprehended,” Providence Police Chief Hugh Clements told WPRO’s Gene Valicenti Tuesday morning. “A 17 year old young man who lives just over the Providence line in Pawtucket. He’s arrested, a family court justice is contacted, and that young man has been remanded to the Rhode Island Training School, he’s being held.”

Providence Police told WPRO Monday night that a 19 year old man was shot in the 2nd floor of the mall garage on the Nordstrom side of the building.

The victim’s wounds are described as non life threatening, and he was transported to Rhode Island Hospital. According to police, this was not an active shooter situation and the victim appears to have been targeted.
