PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo’s campaign is donating $9,000 in contributions from engineering firm executives charged in an alleged pay-to-play scheme in New York.

Husam Ahmad, Shahid Akhtar and their New York-based company were indicted for allegedly bribing a New York City employee to leak confidential information about city contracts. They have pleaded not guilty.

WPRI-TV reports that Ahmad had donated $6,000 to Raimondo’s campaign fund over the past six years. Akhtar had donated $3.000.

A campaign spokeswoman for the Democratic governor says she directed that those contributions be donated to the Station Fire Memorial Foundation. The campaign will not donate other contributions from employees of the company or $6,000 received from Uzma Ahmad, who lives at the same address as Husam Ahmad.
