The Rhode Island Department of Transportation says it’ll be working to determine whether an accident near the 6-10 project was connected to the construction there.

DOT Director Peter Alviti says he doesn’t think the rollover was related to the closure of the Broadway exit on the 6-10. It happened near the footbridge Tuesday morning, marking the 1st commute with the new road
configuration there, combined with a heavy rain.

“Today we had the rain coupled with a couple of accidents and I think on any work day, even when we didn’t have the work zone, that was an area that was very challenging,” he said.

The DOT will look to turn the overhead highway lights back on to assist drivers during winter’s late sunrises and early sunsets.
